Programme Synopsis/Outline

A night’s worth of good sleep is highly recuperative for both our physical and mental health. Its restorative effect on our overall well-being is to be regarded seriously, as sleep deprivation affects our psychological state and mental health significantly. Any disruption of sleep is detrimental to the functioning of many body systems, notably our functioning in learning, memory, stamina, mood quality, judgement, and mental acuity. People with mental health problems are more likely to suffer from sleep disorders, and there are more than 70 types of sleep disorders, notably insomnia – difficulty falling or staying asleep, narcolepsy – extreme sleepiness or falling asleep suddenly during the day. With so many known sleep disorders, we cannot help but to worry if we are getting sufficient and quality sleep. After all, the amount of time we spend sleeping makes up one third of our life. This is about an average of 229,961 hours we will sleep in our lifetimes! Wouldn’t you want so many hours spent sleeping well?

Stress is one of the primary causes that exacerbate sleep difficulties, so managing our stress level plays a key role in better sleep. Relaxation techniques discussed in this webinar will prove effective in dealing with stress. Other direct improvements to sleep which will be discussed are changes in lifestyle, sleep hygiene, physical activity, and the use of psychotherapy.
